India storm into women tennis finals
India beat Uzbekistan taking a 2-0 lead to enter the finals of women tennis team competition at the Asian Games.

Doha: Riding on the brilliance of Sania Mirza, India overpowered Uzbekistan taking an unassailable 2-0 lead to storm into the finals of the women tennis team competition at the Asian Games on Wednesday night.

India, for whom this is their maiden entry into the final of this competition, will take on Japan in their battle for Gold.

Uzbekistan had stunned favourites China in the quarter finals on Tuesday while Japan beat Chinese Taipei 2-0 in other semi-final.

Shikha Oberoi gave India the lead when she beat Akgul Amanmuradova 7-6, 4-6, 6-3 in a match which lasted over three hours.

Sania then made short work of Iroda Tulyaganova 6-3, 6-0 in just 54 minutes to wrap up the match in India's favour.

In the men's section, Japan set up a title clash with Korea. In the semi-finals, Japan beat Thailand and Korea beat Chinese Taipei by identical 2-1 margins.
