HYDERABAD: An 88-year old woman, who was unable to move one of her legs for a long period of time, managed to start walking again. All thanks to the Tibetan way of healing and medicines. Such diseases, and many more chronic ones, can be taken care of through the traditional Tibetan medicine. To mark the Golden Jubilee Anniversary of Men Tsee Khang (Tibetan Medical and Astrological Institute), a two-day exhibition on Tibetan medicine and astrology is being hosted in the city. Tibetan medicine is a traditional medical system that employs a distinctive and elaborate approach to diagnosis with techniques like pulse analysis and urine analysis and utilise behaviour and dietary modification, medicines composed of natural materials and physical therapies to treat illness. “People come to us as a last resort —after having tried all other types of medicines. And they have been provided with relief and a change of life,” explains Dr Dorjee Rapten Neshar, chief medical officer, Tibetan Medical centre, who has come down from Bengaluru for this exhibition. On displayThe exhibition will have stalls that display — history and evolution of Tibetan medicine, various doctors for free consultation and healing, Tibetan medicines in various forms like concoction, pills, teas and a lot more. “This exhibition will not only benefit patients who have been suffering from chronic diseases, but will only be a very educative programme for medical students,” reveals Neshar, adding, “Consultation is for free, but if people would want us to make some personal charts for them, that will be charged for.”Uniqueness of Tibetan medicineTibetan way of healing combines medicine and astrology, making it a unique way of healing illness. “Once the diagnosis is done, healing aspects are based on planetary movements. For example, a day when the patient will benefit the most is chosen to heal or prepare medicines. This is how astrology comes into picture,” explains Neshar.  Tibetan medicines are prepared from natural herbs that go down to treat the root of the diseases without any unwelcome side effects, along with being cost effective. Apart from many common ailments, Tibetan medicine is best sought for major chronic diseases like asthma, Rh-arthritis, diabetes, hypertnesion, cardio-vascular diseases, nervous disease, gynaecological problems, various forms of cancer, among many others. Neshar further adds, “We want to provide a holistic approach to healthcare. It is not just about medicines but also giving the essence of life.”    Tibetan healing in the cityIf you miss out on the two-day exhibition, there is a Tibetan medical centre at Padmaraonagar in the city, wherein there are not only resident doctors who treat patients using this alternative medicine, but will also have a team of Tibetan doctors from Bengaluru, who regularly visit the city branch.
