The cyber police station proposed at the Infopark seems to be a distant dream following space constraints.
The proposal for the police station came out last year. But even after one year the authorities have no idea as to where to set up the police station.
According to the police, the ideal spot for the hi-tech police station has not yet been finalised. Due to space constraints the plan was altered and it was decided to start the police station outside the Infopark. But that too failed to take off after feasibility issues cropped up. So uncertainty still continues.
Thrikakkara Assistant Commissioner of Police, Bijo Alexander said that the talks with Infopark officials are still on.
“We were allotted space for the police station. But it was extremely small. The original design was for a three-storeyed building of 3,000 sqft. The ground floor will have space for the regular Infopark police station, with office for a circle inspector. The second floor will be a full-fledged cyber police station and the top floor will be marked out for providing training in cyber policing. But the space first provided to us had no space for all these facilities. The discussion is still on this project,” Bijo Alexander.
The police officials said that it is only after the space allotment that the government will sanction funds for the project. “The project is still on paper. The government and the agency concerned should approve the project. After which, the fund has to be allotted. So it will take time to realise the project,” the police said.
The proposal is to have around 30 police personnel in the police station and a new jurisdictional area that will be carved out from the police station limits of Thrikkakkara, Kalamassery and Tripunithura.
The station will have a circle inspector and three sub-inspectors attached to it and three vehicles to do the patrolling and manning law and order in and near the Infopark areas.
