Herd of elephants kill a villager, destroy houses in Nawadih

A man was killed by a herd of elephants, which went berserk at Nawadih, damaging at least ten houses, police said on Thursday. A herd of 11 pachyderms entered the village late on Wednesday night, destroyed the houses and trampled one villager to death, the sources said.

Agitated villagers put up road blockade demanding adequate compensation before ending it following assurance by the district administration, the police said.
