BELGAUM: Heavy downpour lashed Belgaum and Khanapur taluks of the district and south Maharashtra for the fifth consecutive day on Saturday, leading to a subsequent rise in water levels in Malaprabha, Ghataprabha, Markandeya, Doodhganga, Vedaganga and Krishna rivers.The water level in Koyna reservoir in Maharashtra has increased by nearly one TMC ft due to incessant rains in its catchment area; Maharashtra had released 1,14,460 cusecs to Karnataka on Friday.To avoid floods in Krishna river, Karnataka has released 1,37,537 cusecs of water from Alamatti reservoir to Narayanpur reservoir.11,59,220 cusecs of water released from the reservoir on Friday as against its inflow of 1,78,540 cusecs.The water level is now just 0.36 m short of reaching its brim on Friday.Meanwhile, Kudachi bridge in Chikkodi taluk across is open to public after water receded from the bridge by about a feet.However, the Pashchapur- Ingalagi bridge across Hiranyakeshi was inundated following the heavy rain.12 houses in Belgaum and 5 in Khanapur collapsed partially on Saturday taking the total of damaged houses in the district since June to 136.As many as 83 houses in Belg a u m t a l u k w e r e damaged.KONKAN RAIL SERVICES HITMANGALORE: Incessant rains and logging of mud on the railway track in Ratnagiri - Nivsar section of Konkan Railway disrupted services for the second consecutive day.A Southern Railway press release informed that passengers of Nizamuddin- Ernakulam South Mangala Express (12618) which left Nizamuddin on Friday will be trans-shipped with those of Ernakulam South - Nizamuddin Mangala Express (12617), which left Ernakulam South on Friday
