BANGALORE: With doubts over the state government accepting his final report on illegal mining, Lokayukta Justice N Santosh Hegde expressed confidence that the Central Empowerment Committee (CEC) set up by the Supreme Court to look into illegal mining in Karnataka and Andhra, will take cognizance of his report.The Lokayukta, who on Saturday said four ministers in the Yeddyurappa-led BJP government were involved in illegal mining in Bellary, told Express that he would consider submitting a copy of the report to the Governor too. “I want to submit it on Monday or Tuesday. The interim report on illegal mining has already been taken into consideration by the CEC and the SC. I am confident that the final report too would be picked by them,” Hegde said.Meanwhile, Governor H R Bhardwaj, who had on two occasions in the past recommended President’s Rule in the state, said he is yet to come into the picture.But Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa is said to be confident of surviving another battle, and is now considering arriving in Bangalore from Mauritius instead of going directly to Delhi to meet party higher-ups.Meanwhile, his younger son B Y Vijayendra cut short his holiday in Mauritius and returned to Bangalore on Friday night, leading to speculation in political circles on Yeddyurappa’s next move.On Saturday, Bangalore City police commissioner B G Jyothiprakash Mirji called on Hegde and assured security to officers who helped in preparing the final report on illegal mining.“We have assured protection to some of the officials on the Lokayukta’s request,” Mirji told Express. He also said police have already provided security to U V Singh, who, along with Biswajith Misra, Deepak Singh and Udaya Kumar are some of the officers facing threats as they helped the Lokayukta in the investigation into illegal mining.
