KOCHI: The Kerala High Court on Thursday held that visually-challenged teachers can be appointed as headmasters in special schools.A Division Bench comprising Justice C N Ramachandran Nair and Justice C K Abdul Rahim passed the order while considering an appeal filed by the management of an aided blind school in Thiruvananthapuram. “Denying appointment to a visually-challenged teacher as the headmaster on the grounds that he/she is blind will create a wrong message,” the court said and added that such an appointment will only give a boost to the dreams of the visually-challenged students for a bright future. The appeal was filed against the single bench order to appoint V M Omanakumari of Thiruvananthapuram, a visually challenged schoolteacher, as headmistress.Instead of Omanakumari, the school management appointed D Justin Raj as headmaster.
