Berlin: Liverpool's Champions League hero Dietmar Hamann has not given up hope of making Germany's final World Cup squad despite being overlooked for the past five months.

"Of course you can look at it and say the national team is over for me," Hamann told newspaper Die Welt.

"But I still believe I have a chance of being at the World Cup."

The 32-year-old Hamann won the last of his 59 German caps back in August 2005 when he was panned for his performance in a 2-2 friendly draw with the Netherlands in Rotterdam.

"After the Rotterdam game I pleaded with the coach not to overlook me," admitted Hamann.

But Germany manager Jurgen Klinsmann has done just that and Hamann, who is not a regular starter at Liverpool, was not included in a 26-man party recently invited to join Klinsmann in Dusseldorf.

Unless he can force his way into the squad for the next friendly with Italy on March 1 it looks bleak for Hamann with the finals beginning on June 9 in Munich.
