Dausa: The Gujjars in Rajasthan blocked National Highway 11 at Dausa and a state highway in Sawaimadhopur district to build up pressure on the government to provide a concrete proposal for granting them five per cent reservation in government jobs.
The protesters are not letting any vehicles pass through the highway and are raising slogans against the state government.
"Several hundred people blocked the highway at Sikandara this morning while the Sawaimadhopur-Sheopur state highway is also blocked since last night," police said.
The meeting between representatives of the Gujjar community and Rajasthan government on Saturday ended in a deadlock.
"The talks have failed because the ministers came without any clear proposal to address our demands," Gujjar leader Kirori Singh Bainsla said.
The meeting was held in Bayana town on Saturday evening between a delegation of Gujjars led by their leader Bainsla and a committee of ministers comprising Rajendra Rathore, Arun Chaturvedi and Hem Singh Bhadana.
The agitation was launched on Delhi-Mumbai rail tracks in Pilukapura area in Bharatpur on Thursday, which has affected many trains.
Several trains have been cancelled, partially cancelled while others were diverted causing inconvenience to the passengers.
