Saurashtra: Even as Prime Minister Narendra Modi tours the country hard-selling his decision to demonetize, Opposition Congress in his home state Gujarat is trying to counter it all with a new strategy that involves literally, a load of bull.
The Congress-ruled Amereli Municipality in Gujarat has issued a decree banning stray cattle from dropping more than three kilograms of dung per day – a kilogram a day for calves.
The logic: open defecation by cows, bulls and buffaloes is hampering the PM’s other pet project of Swachch Bharat!
And they seem pretty serious about it. The municipality is forming “flying sqauds” to “measure” the amount of dung produced by cattle in public places. Owners of cattle who are caught defying the new decree will be paraded on donkey-backs through the town!
“If demonetisation has helped clean up black money, this move will also help in cleaning up Amreli,” municipality president Alka Gondaliya told News18.
The municipality that falls in the Saurashtra region of Gujarat has issued a notification in this regard.
“Those who are opposing this decision with ‘tan, mann and anaytik dhan’ are actually against the Swachh Bharat programme,” said Congress MLA from Amreli, Paresh Dhanani.
The BJP lost no time in ridiculing the move and said that Congress leaders have lost their mind.
“This is childish behaviour. The Congress seems to have lost its mental balance. People of Amreli have voted the Congress to power with a huge majority and this is what they getting in return,” said a local BJP leader, Bharat Kanabar.
