Ahmedabad: Gujarat High Court judge Justice Akil Qureshi has withdrawn himself from hearing the plea of Gujarat IPS officer NK Amin turning approver on grounds of conflict of interest in the Sohrabuddin Sheikh encounter case. The judge has now referred the case to Justice Jayant Patel.
Suspended deputy superintendent of police Amin is himself an accused in the staged shootout killing. He has been shifted from Sabarmati Jail to Vadodara Jail after claiming that there is threat to his life after he turned approver in the Sohrabuddin case.
Meanwhile, hearing of former Gujarat minister of state for home Amit Shah's bail application has now been postponed for September 16. The hearing on the bail application of was adjourned following the illness of the special Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) judge PP Bhatt.
Shah's lawyer Mitesh Amin along with CBI counsel, mutually agreed for September 16 as the next hearing date.
Earlier the hearing was deferred four times due to unavailability of Shah's senior counsel Ram Jethmalani or the CBI counsel KTS Tulsi.
However, Jethmalani was present in the court on Thursday. Shah was arrested by CBI on July 25 in connection with the fake encounter case and charged with murder, extortion and kidnapping.
Shah's bail application was filed on July 26, a day after his arrest.
Four IPS officers have been arrested in the case so far by the investigating agencies and role of the then investigating officer Geeta Johri, is also under scanner.
She has been interrogated several times by the CBI so far. Those IPS officers arrested in the case include D G Vanzara, Raj Kumar Pandiyan, Dinesh M N, and Abhay Chudasma.
