HYDERABAD: Amid growing criticism against Sri Sathya Sai Central Trust, the State government, which was treading cautiously on the matter, has finally decided to take control of the situation. It sent a letter to trust secretary Chakravarthy seeking a comprehensive report on the trust’s activities and its members within 10 days.Sources said the seizure of Rs 35.5 lakh -- reportedly taken out of Yajurveda Mandir, the late Sathya Sai Baba’s personal chamber -- while being transported to Bangalore and the subsequent developments particularly doubts raised by all sections of the society on the trust’s trustworthiness led the government to step in, perhaps for the first time since the trust came into being decades back.Government sources told Express that a communication had been sent to the secretary of the trust in which his attention was drawn to the various media reports and doubts being expressed on certain aspects of the functioning of the trust. In what appears to be a clear indication from the government that enough is enough, it asked the secretary to provide information not only in respect of Sri Sathya Sai Central Trust, but also the institutions and organisations affiliated or associated with it.Meanwhile, the trust members held an emergency meeting and reportedly discussed the government notice. Later, they said they would hold a press conference Tuesday.
