Ganesha immersion creates 800 tonne waste

Ganesh idol immersion on Saturday and Sunday in the city has generated an additional garbage of nearly 800 tonnes.

However, the garbage on the roads were cleared by Sunday afternoon as was promised by the commissioner of the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) on Saturday.

Over 1,000-1,500 entomology and sanitation workers were pressed in for cleaning the 15-km stretch of procession routes.

GHMC additional commissioner (Health & Sanitation) L Vandan Kumar said that the GHMC lifts around 3,500 tonnes of garbage on a daily basis.

But, in the last 24 hours, it has lifted around 4,200-4,300 tonnes which means around 800 tonnes of additional garbage has been lifted.
