KURNOOL: Did mining baron Gali Janardhan Reddy own 200 acres of assigned land in Kurnool district and subsequently get it regularised?Leaders of the Left parties say so. According to them, 200 acres of assigned land is in possession of Gali.Around 100 Left party activists on Tuesday went into a mango orchard in 10.76 acres at Kalva village in Orvakallu mandal, which is allegedly owned by Gali, and hoisted red flags on the land.They alleged that the former Karnataka minister got the assigned land regularised using his political influence.CPI state secretariat member K Ramakrishna demanded that the state government resume the 200 acres of land from Gali and distribute it to the poor. CPM district secretary Shadrak announced that the Left parties would hoist red flags in the 200 acres of land allegedly owned by Gali. The Left party leaders said they would not rest till the government resumed the assigned lands from Gali.According to sources, Gali’s wife Lakshmi Aruna hails from Kalva village. Through his relatives, Gali purchased the mango orchard in Kalva and registered it in his wife’s name.  However, the land in 438F1 and 438F2 survey numbers was assigned land. The ceiling land was distributed to Yellappa and Venkateswarlu about three decades ago. The two farmers sold the land. Subsequently, Gali purchased the assigned land from Sridhar Reddy. The assigned land changed five hands during the last three decades, the sources said. Following the allegation of Left parties, Orvakallu tahsildar Nagaraju said a probe would be ordered into it and the report would be submitted to the higher-ups.
