New Delhi: Normally it's a trend in the Hindi film industry that the children of yesteryear stars don't sustain at the commercial as well as critical level for long.
Some appear as the next big thing on the cinema screens but soon the reality takes over and no producers accepts the challenge to back them after four-five flops.
Aided chiefly by good marketing strategy, some star kids debut with nice and successful film but fail to carry the magic forward in a longer run. Kumar Gaurav had become the national heartthrob after 'Love Story' but soon ran out of gas. Now, he does occasional cameos.
Similarly, Fardeen, Tusshar, Zayed and Puru Rajkumar were launched with much pomp and show but they had to leave the lust for solo lead roles after a point. Very judiciously Zayed has started venturing into producing the films. Sooner or later, others will also have to join the bandwagon.
These actors still enjoyed a relatively longer time as stars but another category comprised of star kids such as Juhi and Aryan Babbar, Mimoh Chakravarty and Faizal Khan who have lost all the faith earlier shown by the Hindi movie goers by now. Juhi is certainly doing well in Punjabi films but she is not expected to regain her lost position as the leading lady in Bollywood.
Another star kid Prateik Babbar seems to be moving just at the right pace in this scenario. He is no superstar material like Hrithik Roshan who can boast of everything from the killer looks to deadly dance moves. Prateik looks like a natural actor who gives more importance to the significance of the role than the star quotient of the character.
He started with a low profile role of Amit Mahant in Abbas Tyrewala's 'Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na'. Prateik excelled in his portrayal of the low feeling brother of Genelia D'Souza who wants to be understood by his immediate surrounding.
This role was not easy to play for a newcomer but somehow Babbar managed to pass satisfactorily.
'Dhobhi Ghat' polished Prateik Babbar as an actor. He poured most of his talent in the scenes where his inner desire of dating a sophisticated girl takes the center stage.
Prateik again played a character closer to his real age in 'Dum Maaro Dum' and 'Aarakshan'. Babbar was loud in 'Aarakshan' and his dialogue delivery was also questionable. His face had almost the same expression throughout the film and he disappointed the critics too, still he achieved success in a way. He managed to match the screen presence of much bigger stars like Amitabh Bachchan and Saif Ali Khan.
He was not offered anything concrete in 'Dum Maaro Dum', neither his role was pivotal to the film but whatsoever was on offer, Prateik accepted gleefully.
'My Friend Pinto' is all set to hit the theatres on October 14 and it will be a big day for Prateik Babbar as he is appearing for the first time as the solo hero.
Prior to 'My Friend Pinto', Prateik has not been held directly responsible for a film's bad business but this time he will be directly under scanner along with Kalki Koechlin.
