BHUBANESWAR: Marking the Gandhi Jayanti, the State Government has doubled the monthly pension of the freedom fighters. The Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) has announced that monthly pension of those, who were jailed during the Independence movement, will stand enhanced to Rs 4,000 from the existing Rs 2,000.Similarly, the monthly pension of the freedom fighters, who took part in the movement but were not imprisoned, has been raised to Rs 3,000.Those, who are receiving Central pension, will also receive pension from the State. The revised pension will come into effect from this month itself.The State Government also decided to provide free medical treatment to all freedom fighters. The expenses will be borne by the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund.“A maximum of Rs 3 lakh would be provided for treatment of each freedom fighter,” the CMO said.
