NEDUMBASSERY: The sharp increase in arbitrations and mediations was a clear indication that the judiciary was not functioning properly. The Laws should be given due importance to overcome this problem, said  Supreme Court Judge Jasti Chelameswar here on Monday. He was laying the foundation stone of the Judicial Academy Building at Athani here. The main challenge which the Indian Judicial System faced was that the Laws and Acts were not given importance.  The Judicial Academy gains importance in such circumstances. Presiding over the function, Kerala High Court Acting Chief Justice Manjula Chellur said that there was no specific direction in the Law Books or Academy classes on how a judge should behave and what the  society expected from the judges. The judges should observe other great judges and try to understand the positive sides of the Law.Kerala Judicial Academy President Justice Pius C Kuriakose, Board of Governors member Justice K T Sankaran, Kerala Legal Service Authority Executive Chairman Justice C N Ramachandran Nair, Advocate General K P Dhantapani, K P Dhanapalan MP, Anwar Sadath MLA, Jose Thettayil MLA, Kerala Bar Council Chairman C Sreedharan Nair, Kerala Judicial Academy Director K Abraham Mathew were among those who spoke.
