Over the years, several thousand people have achieved a dream of learning to use computers in what is an increasingly digital world, thanks to a partnership between Ford India and the Rotary Club of Madras South, who have been involved in a digital literacy programme.
On Tuesday evening, the reach was further expanded as Joginder Singh, executive director of Ford’s Global Business Services operation, announced a donation of around 170 computers to several schools and institutions in and around several districts of Tamil Nadu. “The two-way partnership between Ford Motor Company and the Rotary Club of Madras South will empower underprivileged youth by providing them with valuable computer skills that will make a long-term difference in their lives. This gesture will not only have a multiplier effect and touch several people, but will also help strengthen the technology base of the state. We are proud and delighted to support this worthy and meaningful initiative,” said Joginder Singh.
Mike Nithavrianakis, British Deputy High Commissioner, Chennai, who was also present at the event, said, “I am delighted to have been asked to participate in an event that supports such a worthy cause. I congratulate the Rotary Club and Ford’s Global Business Services for their commitment to community-based projects. I hope their involvement will have a long-lasting impact.”
Also present at he occasion was R Seshadri, president of the Rotary Club of Madras South. Addressing the gathering, he said, “This programme transforms lives by equipping beneficiaries with both the hardware and the software to attain digital literacy. ”
