Floods worst disaster in Pak history: Qureshi
Pak Foreign Minister Qureshi has called on the world community to come its help in dealing with the crisis.

Dubai: Terming the floods in Pakistan as "worst humanitarian crisis", the country's Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi has called on the world community to come its help in dealing with the situation.

Qureshi, who is on a trip to Oman to explain to the region's leadership of the extent of damage caused by the flood and the resources needed to deal with it, appealed to Pakistani people in the Gulf nation to donate generously.

Addressing a gathering of Pakistani expatriates in Muscat, he pointed that the Pakistan government was facing huge challenges in dealing with the natural calamity.

"We have devised a three-pronged strategy to deal with the situation. First, is a relief and rescue effort, which is continuing now on full force," he said.

"The next would be early economic recovery," Qureshi said, adding the government in Pakistan is already working on this both at home and abroad.

Qureshi said his government was looking to rebuild and rehabilitate at a swift pace.

"I know this cannot be done overnight, but the sooner we restore the infrastructure and bring people back to their homes the better," he added.

The Pakistan Foreign Minister held talks with top Omani officials to explore how Oman could help his country during the next phase of the recovery operation in October, when damage need assessment would be carried out.

"Asian Development Bank, World Bank and UNDP are assisting Pakistan in assessing the damage. Once that report is shared with us then we will be able to give an exact figure," he said.
