THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Five persons, including a woman, were killed in two separate mishaps near Attingal in the district and at Adoor in Pathanamthitta district on Wednesday morning. While two people were killed when a lorry rammed into the the rear side of a stationary KSRTC bus near Attingal at around 5.30 a m, the other three persons were killed when a car rammed into the rear side of a lorry. The mishap near Attingal occurred on the National Highway near the Poovanpara bridge. Sasi, 65, of Chirayinkeezhu, and Suresh Babu, 53, of Nagaroor, were killed on the spot and thirteen others were injured. The condition of four of the injured were reported to be critical. In the Adoor mishap which occurred at around 7.45 am in the bypass road, Puthethu Sudarsanan, an assistant manager at SBT, Kottayam zonal office, and a resident of SH Mount, Kottayam, his sister Prabha, 41, her husband Sisupalan, 48, were killed on the spot.ENS The couple’s children Prasanth and Gayathri were critically injured. Gayathri, 15, had been admitted to the Medical College Hospital here and Prasanth, 11, was shifted to the SUT hospital. Sudarsanan, who hails from Thiruvananthapuram, and others were proceeding to Kottayam when the mishap occurred. The Maruti car driven by Sudarsanan hit at the rear side of the lorry carrying iron bars, while the lorry suddenly slowed down to pass a bump in the bypass. The bodies of those dead and critically injured were retrieved from the mangled vehicle after cutting open its shell.
