THOOTHUKUDI: A fisherman was killed and three others were reported missing after a fishing boat capsized in bad weather off the coast of Thoothukudi on Monday.Around 2 am on Monday, M Albert (45) and four other fishermen — S Gandhi alias Innasi (60), Y Sami (27), R Tyson (16) and S Balu (75) — all of them from Therespuram set out for fishing on a fibre glass boat.The boat overturned after it was hit by strong winds near the outer harbour anchorage point of VOC port. Balu, who was sitting on the edge of the boat escaped but the others were trapped in the fishing nets.Fishermen on another boat at the scene rescued Balu and rushed him to Thoothukudi Government Medical college hospital.They also recovered the body of Gandhi alias Innasi which was found entangled in a fishing net.Personnel of the Coast Guard, marine police from Tharuvaikulam and workers with the Fisheries Department started a search for the missing men. Fishermen from Therespuram who gathered at the shore on hearing about the incident said the men were trapped in the fishing nets and efforts to escape may have failed. Other fishing boats at the scene immediately returned to the shore. Thoothukudi North police are investigating the incident. One Killed As Another Boat Overturns One person was killed when another boat capsized at Tharuvaikulam, Thoothukudi on Sunday.A Shanmugakumar (18) of Agaram near Eral and three friends visited the Tharuvaikulam beach, played on an anchored fibreglass boat and moved into the sea paddling with their hands. After a strong wind overturned the boat, the boys jumped into the sea. But, Shanmugakumar went missing.
