India will receive six aircraft plus support, with the first aircraft arrival in India scheduled for February 2011.

Washington: The first three of the six C-130J Super Hercules, state-of-the-art military transport aircraft, being manufactured for the Indian Army, is nearing completion, its manufacturer Lockheed Martin announced on Wednesday.

"The first three C-130J Super Hercules for India take the final positions on Lockheed Martin's assembly line in Marietta, Georgia," the major US manufacturer said.

India will receive six aircraft plus support, with the first aircraft arrival in India scheduled for February 2011.

The six C-130Js will give the Indian Army and Air Force new special operations capabilities by using the world's most advanced airlifter, it said.

The C-130J is a comprehensive update of the venerable Lockheed C0-130 Hercules, with new engines, flight deck, and other systems.

The Indian Air Force have purchased six C-130J-30s in early 2008 at the cost of $ 1.059 billion.

It is a package deal with the US government under its Foreign Military sales programme and India has retained options to buy six more of these aircraft for its special forces for combined army-air force operations.
