Firm penalised for duping customer

BANGALORE: The consumer dispute redressal forum has directed Sigma Marketing to give a sleepwell cushon to the customers, who purcahsed furntiture or refund the cost price of the furniture and imposed a cost of Rs 2,000 on the firm.
Y Vishwanath Rai, a resident of Basaveshwarnagar, purchased a sofa set from Sigma Marketing in an exhibition held at Palace Grounds on September 5, 2010 and the vendor had given five years warranty to Rai by receiving Rs 33,000 cash. The vendor had guranteed that the sofa set is cushoned with sleepwell matresses. After a few months, the furniture began to tear. Also, duplicate cushon was used instead of sleep well matresses. Rai complained about it to the vendor and the vendor in turn said that the sofa was manufactured by its sister firm, Phoenix, and promised to get it repaired.
