A major fire broke out in the 25 acres of land acquired by the State Government to construct its proposed International Convention Centre in Akkulam, around 2 p m.
The vegetation in 12 acres of the land was totally destroyed in the fire. The fire engulfed the land lying adjacent to the National Institute of Speech and Hearing (NISH).It is still not known how the fire broke out.
Around 2 p m, the locals noticed the fire and alerted the Fire and Rescue Services officials .
Six fire fighting units from five stations were pressed into service and the fire was doused after three hours.
