ROURKELA: Three makeshift shops were gutted and four partially damaged in a fire at the Vedvyas fair under Brahmani Tarang police limits late on Wednesday. Vedvyas Trust Board secretary Anupam Ray said around 2 am one of the shops caught fire and it quickly spread to other shops due to presence of plastic sheets and other inflammable material. A drapery and two toy shops were reduced to ashes while four were partly damaged. The fire was immediately brought under control by the available fire engine, he said and added that a major mishap was averted. Ray attributed it to careless use of mosquito coils by one of the shop keepers and said none was injured in the incident. Newborn’s Body Found in DustbinThe body of a newborn was found from a dustbin near the Rourkela Government Hospital on Thursday.As per reports, sweepers of Rourkela Municipality inadvertently lifted the mechanical dustbin and dumped the body along with other medical waste at an isolated location behind the Biju Patnaik University of Technology campus. When the incident came to light, the body was retrieved and buried.
