BERHAMPUR: Police on Friday busted a fake voter identity card making racket at Chhatrapur and arrested five persons, including a lawyer. According to police, some stolen cars were seized recently. Of the seized cars, one was stolen from Raipur in Chhattisgarh.
After its reregistration was done in Ganjam, it was sold. Somehow the car owner got the information about the seizure and appealed to the Chhatrapur SDJM to take possession of the car. After obtaining the court order, the owner sent two of his relatives Mahesh Sahu and Byasnarayana Sahu to bring back the car.Armed with the court order, the duo reached Chhatrapur, but police asked them to produce voter identity card (VIC) and other documents to ensure that they are the right persons to take the car.

As the police were rigid, the two approached an advocate of Chhatrapur who sent them to a xerox outlet near Chhatrapur bus stand.The outlet owner immediately prepared two VICs and the duo reached the police with them.

Basing on their statement, police raided the outlet and seized seals used to prepare fake VICs and other certificates.
