BANGALORE: The state government had incurred a loss Rs 175 crore last year due to the bogus beneficiaries of several of its social security schemes. Admitting this on the floor of the House, Chief Minster D V Sadananda Gowda said efforts were being made to eliminate bogus beneficiaries. “We have already identified 4.15 lakh bogus beneficiaries in the state and the exercise is still on,” the CM said, adding that an instruction had been given to the authorities concerned to release pensions till November which was stalled in February. Goodies to TemplesThis year, the state government has already released Rs 38.34 crore for the development of religious institutions in the state. It has earmarked Rs 50 crore in the 2011-12 Budget for development of temples. Informing this during discussion on the Karnataka Hindu Religious Institutions and Charitable Endowments (Second Amendment) Bill, which was passed on Thursday, JD(S) member Y S V Datta said: “There is severe drought... 80 per cent of the funds have been given to rich temples.
