KOLLAM: CPM state secretary Pinarayi Vijayani on Monday urged the State Government to entrust Kochi Metro Rail project to the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC), instead of floating a global tender. Being a public sector company with proven credentials, the DMRC should have been granted the project without going into tender process. He was delivering the inaugural address of the CPM Kollam district conference at the Town Hall on Monday. Chief Minister Oommen Chandy and colleagues should make clear as to what interests are behind the move to go in for global tenders and avoid E Sreedharan and DMRC from the project.Referring to the UPA Government’s stand on developmental activities in the state, he said that while all the other metro rail projects in the country received huge central aid,not only was Kochi Metro denied aid but also reluctant to accord sanction for the project.Pinarayi said that UDF Government had come to power by claiming that aid from Centre would pour into the state as Congress was in power both at Centre and State. However, they failed to keep their promises. There was much hype when Oommen Chandy announced two months ago that the Central Government would allot a special package for the state, but the state has not received even a single rupee under the package. Whereas, West Bengal received Rs 1,500 crore and Uttar Pradesh bagged Rs 4,000 crore under the special package.
