The AP High Court on Tuesday directed the Admissions and Fee Regulatory Committee (AFRC) to make clear by Wednesday the basis on which it has fixed `35,000 as uniform fee for admission into engineering colleges.
Justice CV Nagarjuna Reddy, while dealing with a writ petition by a student G Pooja Reddy seeking notification of fee structure in all engineering colleges in state, asked the AFRC whether it acted independently while fixing the fee at `35,000 per student and whether it had inspected the colleges before fixing the fee.
When the AFRC counsel said that the committee would now inspect engineering colleges, the judge noted that the AFRC has fixed the fee structure of those colleges which have given an undertaking and asked if it is justifiable that it now proposes to inspect those colleges which have approached the High Court on the fee structure issue.
The judge asked the AFRC to first explain the basis for fixing the fee and adjourned the matter for further hearing to Wednesday.
Meanwhile, the Andhra Pradesh Private Engineering Colleges Management Association (APPECMA) and some educational societies and individuals have filed a petition in the High Court seeking suspension of the GO 54 dated Aug 11, 2012, which they say is meant for having inspections at those engineering colleges that have not filed affidavits accepting the fee of `35,000.
They alleged that the GO was issued to discriminate against those colleges which have not bowed down to the government pressure.
The matter is expected to come up for hearing on Wednesday
