MANGALORE: As negative impact of Endosulfan application on human health has been reported in parts of Karnataka and Kerala, the use of Endosulfan in these states may be put on hold.Barring Karnataka and Kerala, the remaining states demanded that the ban should not be imposed on sale of Endosulfan, recommends the interim report submitted to Supreme Court on Friday by its joint committee headed by Director General of ICMR and Commissioner of Agriculture. The SC on May 13 had constituted a joint committee to submit an interim report on whether Endosulfan is a serious health hazard. The report recommends Endosulfan as the cheapest pesticide."Other pesticides are not only expensive but also toxic to pollinators, honey bees and require careful handling," the report informs. The three-hour visit to Puttur taluk also finds a mention in the report. Besides recording the statements of local doctors the team has made no effort to get to the bottom of truth. The report reveals that 1,94,914 kg of technical and 818518.50 l of formulation of Endosulfan with a shelf life of two years was stocked in the country. This can be allowed for export to other countries. But if Endosulfan is banned in other countries, it becomes difficult to dispose, the report adds.
