Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren knocked the doors of the Supreme Court on Thursday, challenging his arrest made by the Enforcement Directorate in a money laundering case and alleging Centre’s role behind the case.
In an exclusive access by CNN it was found that Soren in his plea that was filed before the apex court, alleged that Enforcement Directorate’s action is on the behest of central government, aiming to topple the government in the state.
“The impugned action of the respondent ED is at the behest of the Central Government to topple the democratically elected government in the State of Jharkhand. The Petitioner has been arrested from the precinct of Governor house at 10 pm,” Soren said in his plea.
He further added that the entire proceedings in the said case are without jurisdiction as there is no predicate offence against him.
“ED has no jurisdiction to investigate and arrest the petitioner in the said case. Since the very initiation of the proceedings as well as the investigation along with the illegal arrest by the respondents in a totally arbitrary and high-handed manner deserves to be set aside and petitioner is entitled to be released from the illegal arrest,” the plea read.
