Dwarka (Gujarat): Security has been tightened at the Dwarkadhish Temple in Dwarka, Gujarat, ahead of the Krishna Janmashtami celebrations that fall on Wednesday.
Dwarka is said to be the place from where Lord Krishna ruled over the Yadava race.
The Gujarat Government, however, has decided to cancel all cultural programmes to express its solidarity with the flood victims of Surat.
According to V P Patel, the District Magistrate of Jamnagar, only the Aarti will be done.
"To ensure a peaceful celebration and seeing the condition across the country, the security has been tightened," said Rajiv Ranjan Bhagat, Superintendent of Police, Jamnagar.
Devotees said the rains playing spoilsport saddened them. "We have come here to celebrate Janmashtami, but due to heavy rain, there is less of excitement around. Even the hotels are also empty and there is lot of problem due to rains," said Chiragbhai, a visitor from Mumbai.
