BIDAR: The district’s annual festival — Bidar Utsav — was cancelled with just a few minutes left for the inauguration here on Saturday evening, leaving spectators, who numbered in thousands, to return home disappointed.Deputy Commissioner Sameer Shukla announced the cancellation of the festival on the dais following the state government’s order at the last minute. He said the utsav was cancelled as the district was reeling under drought. Sources told Express that the DC was asked by the Chief Minister’s secretary to cancel the utsav.MLA Bandeppa Kashempur told Express over phone that District In-charge Minister Revu Nayak Belamagi should have announced the cancellation of the festival a month earlier and saved crores of rupees collected by people for the utsav. Belamagi said he had informed MLAs and the DC earlier that he would not take part in the festival.
