Doctors unwilling to work in Kasargod hospital

KASARGOD: It was revealed at a meeting of the District Development Council that there are 50 vacancies of doctors in various hospitals and Public Health Centres in the district. Though the posting orders were issued to 28 candidates for appointment as doctors in Government hospitals and PHCs and CHCs, only one person turned up for duty.The case is not different in the department of animal husbandry. There are as many as 15 vacancies in the district, but only person joined.Officials are not coming to fill various vacancies even though there are many qualified hands in the PSC list.An official said that the widespread propaganda that the spraying of endosulfan had contaminated the soil may be one of the reasons. Another reason was the frequent communal disturbances in the area.If the apathy towards the district continues, it may call the ire of the people, believes many. KSEB officials had faced the wrath of the local people several times whenever there was power outage in the area, irespective of the reason of the power failure.
