Chennai: On Tuesday, DMK staged a walk out in the Tamil Nadu Assembly after its plea for speaking in the House after a statement by Chief Minister Jayalalithaa on health sector projects was turned down by Speaker P Dhanapal.

Soon after Jayalalithaa made a slew of announcements pertaining to the health sector, DMK Floor Leader M K Stalin urged the Speaker to allow him to speak and other members of his party too joined him in seeking the chair's nod.

Though Dhanapal told Stalin that he would be allowed to speak after other members spoke on the health announcements made by the Chief Minister, the DMK members persisted that they be allowed to speak immediately.

As the Speaker did not budge, Stalin along with his party members walked out of the House.

Later, MLAs, including Republican Party of India legislator C K Tamilarasan, hailed the health schemes announced by Jayalalithaa.
