Around 200 junior doctors of the Darbhanga Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) in Bihar's Darbhanga district on Tuesday went on an indefinite strike to press for their demand for hike in stipend.

"We have launched an indefinite strike to press for our demand for hike in stipend to Rs 50,000 per month for the junior doctors," a DMCH Junior Doctors Association office bearer Dr Kunal said.

"The junior doctors' association had knocked the DMCH doors and health department officials for the demand which were not heard forcing us to launch a stir," he said.

Kunal claimed that the junior doctors were getting a stipend of Rs 35,000 per month which was much lower to what others get elsewhere in the country. DMCH Principal SN Sinha said that the junior doctors' strike was not affecting normal functioning of the hospital as the protesters were not obstructing work.
