SC collegium receives report on allegations of land-grabbing against judge.

New Delhi: Karnataka High Court Chief Justice P D Dinakaran's promotion as a judge of the Supreme Court has been put on hold after a collegium of the country’s highest court received a report on allegations of land-grabbing against him.

The collegium, which met on Saturday, is believed to have asked Dinakaran to respond to allegations that he had amassed land in Tamil Nadu's Tiruvallur district, sourced told PTI.

The collegium decided to hold Dinakaran's promotion after reading a report of the District Collector of Tiruvallur in Tamil Nadu which is believed to have alleged that the judge allegedly possessed approximately 500 acres in Kaverirajapuram in Tiruttani taluk alone. Dinakaran hails from Tamil Nadu.

The collegium’s decision will be communicated to the Ministry of Law, where the file relating to the elevation of Justice Dinakaran along with four High Court judges is pending.

After the government receives the communication on the Dinakaran issue from the collegium, sources said it could put in abeyance his elevation and proceed with the appointment of other four judges to the Supreme Court.
