New Delhi: Soon you can get the first free copy of birth and death certificate from the hospitals itself, as the Delhi government launched the facility at the Lok Nayak Hospital.
Delhi Chief Secretary, SK Srivastava handed over the first free birth certificate to one Ranjana Gupta, mother of the new born baby at the time of her discharge at Lok Nayak Hospital.
A total five birth certificates were issued at the hospital.
Giving details of the scheme, Srivastava said in Lok Nayak hospital, where about 1,500 birth and death takes place every month, will be the first hospital of the Delhi government where the birth and death certificates would be given at the level of hospital itself.
"This facility would also be extended shortly in major hospitals which has more than 500 beds, like GTB Hospital, Deen Dayal Upadhyay Hospital and Bhim Rao Ambedkar Hospital. By the end of this year all the government hospital would be able to provide first free birth and death certificate taking place in their respective hospitals," he said.
The copy of death certificate shall be given to nearest relative of the deceased at the time of handling over the dead body, he added.
Presently, the births and deaths events in Delhi are being registered by five civic agencies -- North, South, East Delhi Municipal Corporation, NDMC and Delhi Cantonment Board as per the provisions of the Registration of Birth and Death act 1969 and copy of birth and death certificate are issued by them.
"Now the first free copy of Birth and Death certificate will be given by the hospital and additional copies of birth and death certificates, if required at later stage could be taken from respective local bodies after depositing the prescribed fees," Srivastava said.
