PATNAGARH: Migrant labourers mortgaging BPL cards for money is a known thing in this part of the State. But in Ghunghutipali village under Deulgaon gram panchayat of Patnagarh block, PDS commodities like rice and kerosene are being distributed in the names of deceased persons and non-residents. The cases are not limited to just one or two. As many as 28 persons, including eight deceased, continue to be availing of BPL benefits in the village. Even as the villagers have been drawing the attention of the administration and submitted petitions to Balangir Collector S N Dey and Sub-Collector Mohan Charan Das over the issue, little has been done to rectify the errors. As per reports, 20 persons of the village migrated long back and settled elsewhere. Some of them are Bishnu Kalsai, Biranchi Kalsai, Sudarshan Kalsai, Ganesh Bhatagudia, Sambaru Bangula and Jagat Bhoi. Their quota of PDS commodities, however, is still being distributed. Similarly, eight persons of the village - Dhuba Nag, Trilochan Barlendia, Rukni Bangula, Lata Seth, Ainli Budek, Mathura Seth, Indramani Baralendia and Tarasha Bangula - have died since long. Commodities against their BPL cards continue to be disbursed. The Patnagarh Sub-Collector had assured the villagers to look into the problem.
