With International World Environment Day around the corner, everyone in the city is gearing up to make their contribution, little or big, towards protecting the earth. Plus, this year is even more special for Indians — the United Nations Environment Program has declared India as the official host for World Environment Day. With a burgeoning corporate industry that contributes to ecological waste more often than required, they are now trying to undo the damage. Various corporates in the city have come up with a number of activities and initiatives to do their bit in order to save the environment.  “We have installed a drop box where in associates can drop in their ideas to conserve the environment. The best ideas will be implemented in office on a regular basis. We also have an awareness drive wherein our associates will go out and create awareness regarding environment conservation amongst the general public, outside the DLF building and IIiT Campus. Also, saplings will be planted in the office premises to increase the green cover around us,” explains Suman Reddy, MD of Pegasystems India. While the people at Pegasystems want to come up with ideas to follow on a regular basis, Nexcell Limited has decided to take the fun route to creating environmental awareness. Says Debasis Chatterji, CEO of Netxcell Limited, “This year we have decided to take the environment awareness amongst our employees to next level by conducting an interesting quiz. It will be completely based on eco-conservation at office. We believe this will be a fun way to create interest amongst our people to know more about our eco-system and how they can contribute to the cause.” Recycling is also a major part of conserving the environment. And, ADP India believes in the same. “ADP India conducts regular initiatives, under which its associates are encouraged to hand over all sorts of personal e-Waste that has been accumulated at their homes, to the company. This is further handed over to a firm that recycles E-waste,” explains Satyanarayana V from ADP India. While recycling is surely helpful, some organisations believe in the cliché — prevention is better than cure. Hotel Ista Hyderabad has been built in a completely eco-friendly setup, where not a single rock has been destroyed or disturbed while building the property. It has a natural setup with natural rock formations, that have been there right from the beginning. “This is one of the green initiatives incorporated by the Hotel Ista, Hyderabad from the day it was conceptualised. Along with that we have many initiatives that ensure that we are reducing the negative impact on the environment — be it water conservation or recycling of waste,” reveals Jaideep Anand, GM, Hotel Ista Hyderabad. And then there are those who have left their corporate cabins for a day to literally make the world around them a little bit greener. Employees of Uninor came together in a mission to plant trees around their tower sites — Chintal and SR Nayak Nagar --- on June 3. Speaking on the initiative, Satish Kumar Kannan, a business head at Uninor said, “We are glad that we have in our little way contributed towards a healthy atmosphere by planting of these saplings near our major tower sites in the city — soon to grow and pass on its innumerable benefits to the future residents of the city.”
