HYDERABAD: Three autos with the same registration number - that is what the Bowenpally market police found while investigating the case of stolen autos. Violating the Motor Vehicle Act, these three autos were lying in the twin cities with the same registration number for many days. The issue came to light when Bowenpally police, who conducted checks a few days back, came across an auto bearing the number AP 28 V 2925. When the driver Johnson failed to produce documents and did not give convincing replies, he was taken into custody. During questioning, police came to know that the actual registration number of the auto was different. “During probe of missing autos, we nabbed a person who revealed that there were three vehicles with the same registration number,” inspector G Srinivas said. Police said that Johnson, in order to avoid paying money to his financier, had replacing the registration number of his vehicle with that of a vehicle which was already disbanded. He did this with the help of a mechanic Sampath. “Sampath used a gas cutter to change the unique chassis name allotted to the vehicle,” police said.
