Congress leaders have urged Chief Minister Jagadish Shettar to rescind the Cabinet’s decision to take back a large tract of land allotted to Sumanahalli Society, a rehabilitation centre for leprosy affected people. Addressing reporters on Tuesday, KPCC President G Parameshwar termed the government’s decision ‘retrograde’ and ‘inhuman’.

He said the centre was rendering yeoman service by providing relief to leprosy patients.  “When the society turned their back on leprosy affected patients, the Sumanahalli Society stood by them,” Parameshwar said.

Congress legislator J Alexandar said, “The Sumanahalli Society has not violated any lease conditions and the government’s decision to take back a major portion of the land is unwarranted.”
