BHUBANESWAR: Members of the Congress slammed the Government for violating the Western Orissa Development Council (WODC) Act in the matter of nomination of members on Monday. Raising the issue during zero hour, Santosh Singh Saluja of the Congress said son of a former minister was re-inducted into the council when the election Code of Conduct was in force. Besides, the Government has violated the rotation policy while renominating members to the council. While the chairman of the council has a five-year term, members should be changed every two years. However, this is not being followed by the Government, he said and added that he had given a privilege notice to the Speaker on the issue. Supporting Saluja, his party colleague Surendra Singh Bhoi said the renomination of Kalikesh Singhdeo, MP, violated the rotation norm. Alleging that former planning and coordination minister AU Singhdeo is treating WODC like his parental property, he sought to know as to how Kalikesh was renominated after his term expired. Accusing the State Government of being anti-western Odisha, Naba Das of the Congress said the BJD members in the council had been utilising the WODC funds for political purpose. Lambasting the Government for its inability to fix the WODC headquarters, Das urged the Government to announce the headquarters of the council somewhere in western Odisha without delay. Leader of Opposition Bhupinder Singh requested the Speaker to give a direction to the Government to explain in the House how members were nominated to WODC when the election Code of Conduct was in force.
