New Delhi: Delhi on Friday experienced the coldest day of the season so far with the mercury dipping further even as the weatherman predicted rains in the city.

The minimum temperature was recorded three notches below normal at 5.1 degrees Celsius at the Safdarjung observatory, considered the official for Delhi. This was down from Thursday's 6.6 degrees Celsius.

The minimum temperature at Lodhi Road observatory recorded a further low of 4.3 degrees Celsius. In Narela, a low of 4.8 degrees Celsius was registered while in Gurgaon it was 2.4 degrees Celsius.

The maximum temperature also settled a notch below normal at 22.3 degrees Celsius.

As per the MeT forcast, the city is likely to experience rains and thunderstorms after midnight. Also, the MeT has predicted overcast conditions for Saturday along with likelihood of rains or thunderstorms in some areas.

"Tomorrow, there will be mist and shallow fog in the morning followed by partly cloudy skies along with the possibility of rains or thunderstorms in some areas."

"The maximum and minimum temperatures are likely to hover at 19 and 8 degrees Celsius," the MeT forecast said. Humidity levels were recorded between 32 and 91 per cent, the Met department said.
