CMs relief to kin of slain AIADMK man

CHENNAI/THIRUVADANAI: Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa on Monday strongly condemned the murder of Mohammed Yusuf, secretary of the AIADMK’s SP Pattinam unit, for lodging a complaint against Nagoore Kani for encroaching upon poromboke land. Yusuf was murdered on September 4.The CM directed the police to bring to book the culprits involved in the crime. She also announced a financial assistance of Rs one lakh  to the family of Yusuf from the AIADMK party fund.Mohammed Yusuf, town secretary of AIADMK unit at  S P Pattinam, was stabbed to death on Sunday, allegedly by a Congress functionary, who was irked that the former had lodged a complaint against him with the Ramnad Collector that he had usurped a government poromboke land.Yousuf lodged a plaint with the Collector that Nagoorkani, brother of Seyed (45), a Congress functionary of the same town, had encroached upon three acres of government land.  Angered by this, Seyed had gone to Yousuf’s house on Sunday night and questioned him.  This led to an altercation and Seyed had pulled out a knife and stabbed Yousuf indiscriminately, killing him on  the spot. When they learnt of the murder, Yousuf’s supporters set fire to the houses of Seyed and other Congressmen. They also torched their cars.  This led to tension in the town and on instructions from DSP Mohanraj, strong police pickets had been posted in the town.
