BHUBANESWAR: Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Thursday tried to stay clear from the land allotment controversy. No government land has been allotted to any judge during the last 12 years, he told mediapersons. Specific complaint of irregular allotment, if any, will be examined, he assured.“My Government is in power for the last 12 years and during this period the General Administration Department has not given government land under discretionary quota or at concessional price to any judge,” he told mediapersons.Naveen’s response comes amidst allegations against two former BJP ministers of making irregular allotment of housing plot to influential persons including, High Court judges and bureaucrats. The BJP was a coalition partner of the BJD from 2000 to 2009.“The Bhubaneswar Development Authority and the Cuttack Development Authority have allotted plots under their discretionary quota. However, those files do not come to my office,” he said.He refuted allegation made by Leader of the BJP Legislature Party and former Urban Development minister KV Singhdeo that Naveen’s father Biju Patnaik had allotted Lingaraj temple land in the name of his wife Gyan Patnaik when he was chief minister in 1961.“No land has been allotted as far as Naveen Nivas is concerned from any discretionary quota by any chief minister. Additional land of Naveen Nivas was settled following due process of law,” Naveen said adding the additional land was registered in the name of his mother much before Biju became chief minister in 1961. Asked if his Government would abolish discretionary quota system, Naveen said he was told that there are certain Supreme Court guidelines in the matter and he will look into it.
