HYDERABAD: The Mohan Kanda committee on agriculture, set up to study the problems of Konaseema farmers and workers and make suitable suggestions to see that the situation like crop holiday will not recur in the state, will proceed to the affected areas immediately at the chief minister's bidding.Former chief secretary Mohan Kanda is its chairman.The other members of the committee are Acharya NG Ranga Agricultural University former vice-chancellor MV Rao (vice-chairman), Anandloni Institute of Rural Management (IRMA), Gujarat former vice-chancellor K Pratap Reddy, NG Ranga Agricultural University research head R Sudhakar Rao and Godavari delta irrigation chief engineer K Sudhir.Commissioner of agriculture V Usharani is the membersecretary.Kanda called on chief minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy at the Secretariat on Friday.He was accompanied by other members except Pratap Reddy.The chief minister discussed with them the measures being initiated by the government for farmers' welfare.He said the government would undertake repairs of drains and provide financial aid well before the release of irrigation water. The government decided to extend NREGS to farm labour and sanctioned `50 crore for execution of works under the rural employment generation programme.Reddy said Andhra Pradesh stood first in the implementation of welfare programmes for farmers and said the government released `1,600 crore towards input subsidy to farmers who lost their crops in floods. The input subsidy has been increased from `4,500 to `6,000 per hectare and the interest on crop loans to the tune of `350 crore has been waived in cyclone and flood affected districts.
