Chief Minister Jagadish Shettar has assured of developing north Karnataka by implementing the recommendations of the Nanjundappa Commission.
After inaugurating the health checkup camp organised to celebrate the 53rd birthday of Bailhongal BJP MLA Jagadish Metgud on the government hospital premises at Bailhongal, the Chief Minister on Saturday said that he would implement the Nanjundappa Commission report which identifies the backward regions and how to develop them.
Shettar, said that his becoming the CM was due to the blessings of the people of north Karnataka and added that he would not disappoint the people and leaders.
Shettar said that soon after assuming office, he sanctioned `1 crore each to the 123 drought-hit taluks. He also apologised for arriving late.
On Bailhongal observing bandh on Saturday to celebrate MLA Metgud’s birthday and handing over Bailhongal Primary Health Centre (PHC) to KLE Society, District Minister Umesh Katti said that the people who observed the bandh were miscreants. Katti said that Metgud had got `160 crore sanctioned for Chachadi-Murgod Lift Irrigation and `42 crore for a water project.
BJP MLC and KLE Society Director Mahantesh Kavatagimath said that the government has handed over the Bailhongal PHC to KLES after verifying its work in the health sector. He said by providing good medical service, the society will give a deserving reply to people who observed the bandh.
As the Chief Minister arrived three hours late, the organisers conducted a laughter show to engage the restless people.Angry over the delay in the arrival of the Chief Minister, BJP activists threw plastic chairs in the pandal on Saturday night.
The CM, who was in neighbouring Dharwad district arrived at 10.30 pm, three hours late to the programme in Bailhongal. The BJP activists shouted slogans against the organisers and police had to intervene to control the situation.
As per the health department’s order, about 25 women from neighbouring villages in Bailhongal Assembly segment had come to the venue at 4 pm with their newborns to receive bond certificates of Bhagyalakshmi scheme.
