A 16-year-old girl died on Thursday after she was allegedly set on fire by three youths, when she resisted their molestation attempt in Sandi area, police said here.
The three youths scaled the wall of a house and attempted to molest the victim, a class 12 student, while she was sleeping at her house, along with family members, on Wednesday night, they said.
When the girl resisted the move and raised an alarm, the youths poured kerosene over her and set her on fire, police said.
While attempting to flee the spot, one of the accused was nabbed by the family members, who thrashed him, before handing him over to police.
The victim was rushed to a primary health centre at Sandi for treatment, from where she was referred to a district hospital, where she succumbed to her injuries on Thursday, police said.
Senior Superintendent of Police, Govind Agarwal and other officers reached the spot and postmortem of the victim was performed under tight security.
