HYDERABAD: PRP founder president and actor K Chiranjeevi, who has merged his party with the ruling Congress in February 2011, will take Congress membership at the All India Congress Committee (AICC) office in New Delhi on August 20. Other leaders of the PRP will enroll themselves as Congress members at Gandhi Bhavan (state Congress headquarters) here on August 22.Soon after meeting PRP leaders C Ramachandraiah and G Srinivasa Rao on Wednesday, APCC chief Botcha Satyanarayana told newsmen at Gandhi Bhavan that Chiranjeevi would take the Congress party’s membership in the presence of AICC general secretary Rahul Gandhi and Union minister and incharge of AP affairs Ghulam Nabi Azad in New Delhi on August 20.w Other PRP leaders, including MLAs and MLCs, would join the party at Gandhi Bhavan on August 22. Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy and Ghulam Nabi Azad were invited to the programme, he added. The APCC president said that he had postponed his proposed tour of East and West Godavari districts by a week i.e. from August 21-22 to August 27-28.Replying to a query, Botcha said Chiranjeevi as a leader had the responsibility to strength the Congress. The PRP MLAs and leaders would be accommodated in the party at the time of reconstitution of the APCC, DCC, CCC and other party committees which got delayed due to the prevailing circumstances in the state, he noted.Answering another question, the APCC president, who also holds the transport portfolio in the Kiran Kumar Reddy cabinet, hoped that the Telangana ministers who have been staying away from their duties at Secretariat would take part in the Independence Day celebrations by hoisting the national flag.Botcha appealed to the Telangana employees who have decided to go on a general strike from August 17 to cooperate with the state government in having a conducive atmosphere in addressing the people’s problems. “We (Congress) want to have a permanent solution to the (Telangana) issue which is sensitive in nature,” he said.
